Internet requirements for online lessons
Video-based music lessons require a stable, reasonably fast internet connection. Audio quality in particular degrades noticeably on a weak or congested connection. Here is how to check yours and get the best result.
Recommended speed
A minimum of 5 Mbps upload and download is required for a smooth video lesson. 10 Mbps or more is ideal. You can test your current speed at fast.com or a similar service.
Wired vs. Wi-Fi
A wired ethernet connection (cable from your router to your device) is significantly more stable than Wi-Fi and is strongly recommended — especially for teachers. If you cannot use a wired connection, try to be in the same room as your Wi-Fi router during lessons.
Reduce congestion during lessons
- Pause any downloads, cloud backups, or streaming on other devices in the house.
- Ask others in your household to avoid heavy internet use (streaming video, large uploads) during your lesson time.
- Close unnecessary browser tabs and applications on your own device.
If your connection drops during a lesson
Refresh the page and rejoin the lesson room using the same link from your confirmation email. Your lesson time should continue from where you reconnect. If the problem persists, contact your internet provider to investigate the underlying connection quality.
